Nomad Home Stay Tour Stay with traditional nomadic families, share and learn about their special lifestyle This special tour takes you to discover a different world, Bayan-Ulgii is the only Kazakh province in Mongolia. In about 1750 a large group of Kazakhs moved from Kazakhstan to China, then 1844 the Kazakh leaders, Kobesh and Jilhishi, lead 500 families from China to a new home in Western Mongolia. Living in isolation in the this remote part of the world, the Mongolian Kazakhs were, and are, the only ethnic Kazakhs who maintain their pure traditional culture and language. Summer is a most busy time for nomadic people because they prepare all milk products for the long winter, including butter and a local type of dry cheese. This tour is a unique chance to stay among traditional nomadic families, to share and to learn about their special lifestyle.

Day 1 Upon your arrival in Ulaan Bataar you will be met by one of our representatives and, after checking in at your hotel, we will take you on a city sightseeing tour and for a welcome dinner. (Hotel/D)

 

 

 Day 2 You will fly to Olgii in Western Mongolia, about 3 hour flight. Ulgii is the capital of the province of Bayan-Ulgii, the home the Kazakh people of Mongolia. At the local airport you will be met by an English-speaking guide, a driver, and an expedition cook. After lunch we will drive to Dayan Lake. On the way we will see the ancient Deer Stones and Balbal Stones, 6th to 8th century Turkish burial markers. We will arrive before dinner at the Ger Camp of our Kazakh guest family. We will stay overnight in one of the Gers, together with members of our guest family. Kazakh families are quite large, consisting of three generations, grandparents, parents and children. (Ger/L/D)

 Day 3-4. Those days we will spend the day with a Kazakh family, We’ll get up same time with nomadic people, experience the milking cows, There will be plenty to see and do. Riding with Kazakh herdsmen if you want, watch how they take care of their animals and help them with processing diary products and sample their traditional food. Explore the real way of living of regular nomadic family. To personally experience their friendliness and hospitality. The Eagle hunters will show us their training methods and you will be introduced to the art of eagle hunting and can talk with the hunters ( Trough an interpreter) about how he trains and hunts with his eagle. The tradition of hunting with Eagles goes back thousands of years in central Asia. You will also see how Kazakh embroidery is made. If you want you can take a few hours of embroidery lessons. Kazakh women are celebrated for colorful their needlework used to decorate the inside of their Gers and house. Today is our last day stay with our nomadic friends to celebrate it we will have big dinner such us Besbarmak. Besbarmak meaning “Five fingers” because the meal is eaten with the hands. This is a delicious stewed mutton, horsemeat sausages, all types of fresh vegetables, homemade noodles sprinkled with parsley and onions. Last day after lunch we’ll say "good bye" to our Kazakh friends and we drive back to Ulgii. There we will visit the local Muslim Mosque, open market and museum and do our shopping including famous Gobi cashmere and for local art and handicrafts. You will stay overnight in a local hotel and enjoy the luxury of a hot shower! (Breakfast and lunch with Kazakh family, Diner at Hotel in Ulgii)

Day 5 In the morning after breakfast we’ll transfer to the Olgii Airport and check-in. Fly to Ulaanbaatar

The ger camps and hotels are in local standards and for twin share.

Meals

You will dine at local restaurants in Ulgii and in the countryside, expedition cook will accompany during the trip and cook for you. Vegetarians and restricted diet travelers should inform of the dietary requirements before arrival in Mongolia. We will arrange the meals accordingly. We will supply two 0.5L bottles of water a day. Providing one large bottle (1.5 liters) of water instead of 2 small bottles is available upon request. More information about the Mongolia meals

Tour vehicles

The tour includes a round-way domestic flight to western Mongolia. Regarding the land transport, Nomadic Homestay Tour was designed with four wheels driving Russian vans, driven by experienced, friendly, and good mechanic-drivers. Different car types are available upon request for private tours. You may check the travel vehicle details at Mongolia transportation.

Weather

The 2023 Golden Eagle Festival takes place on 16 and 17 September. Therefore, the tour departs Ulaanbaatar on 14 September and returns to Ulaanbaatar on 18 September. It occasionally snows in the Altai mountains in September. You should expect -2°C to +10°C during daylight and below 0°C at night/in the evening/ morning. Therefore, we suggest you bring warm clothes suitable for a little below 0⁰C, including your woolen hats and gloves. Please check the DISCOVERY TOUR PACKING LIST and pack accordingly. Also, consider the free luggage allowance on domestic flights – 15 kg per person, including the handbag.
