Mountain climbing tour.

Join us as we climb one of Mongolia’s highest peaks, Mount Khuiten which simultaneously borders with Russia, China and Kazakhstan.

Mount Khuiten is the highest peak of Holy five and has Commitment Grade of 6. It means that climbing is more technical, made in 2 days with staying overnight in the mountain camping sites and requires special skills and equipment, skilled mountain climbing guide.

Day 1  Ulaan Baatar

At Ulaan Baatar airport, our company personal will meet you, after checking in at the hotel, we will take you on a city sightseeing tour and for a welcome dinner.

Day 2 Travel to Ulgii

You will fly to Ulgii City, in the Bayan-Ulgii province in Western Mongolia, about a 3 hour flight. The population of this province is mostly Kazakh, with their own culture and language. At the airport you will meet your English-speaking guide, as well as your driver and expedition cook. Before lunch you will visit Ulgii town, visit the local museum, black market and mosque to discover cultural, historical aspects of our province. Welcoming lunch at restaurant. After lunch we will drive to Tavan Bogd (Five Peaks) National Park, about 90 km, with an overnight stay in a tent camp (Tent/L/D).

Day 3 Drive to the Tsagaan Gol Valley

Today we take a 4-to-5-hour drive through the foothills of the mountains and reach the Tsagaan Gol Valley in the early afternoon. This a common place for the nomadic peoples to make camp in the summertime and where the Tuvan people live, practicing their Shaman religion. Here we will meet our camel guide to prepare for the next day’s hike. (Tent/B/L/D)

Day 4 Hiking to the Tavan Bogd Base Camp

Hiking to the Tavan Bogd Base Camp
Today we will hike 18 km to the base camp of Tavan Bogd. Our luggage will be transported by camels, handled by the local Tuvan people, they are friendly and helpful. Average elevation of basecamp is 3000 meters above sea level. Total hiking time is about 6 to 8 hours (Tent/B/L/D)

Day 5 climbing to Malchin Peak

Acclimatization Day
After breakfast we will start slowly walking for about an hour and then start climbing to Malchin Peak (4050 m), which is on the Mongolian side of the Russian border. Malchin Peak is the lowest of the Holy Five Peaks. It takes 6 to 7 hours to climb to the top of Malchin. Most of the climb will be on rocks, then back to camp to relax. (Tent/B/L/D)

Day 6-9 Khuiten and Potanin Glacier

Khuiten Ascent
We will cross the Potanin Glacier which lies between the base camp and Khuiten Peak. We will cross many big crevasses before reaching the peak. From the base camp, the hike is one day. We will set up camp at 3,500 m. The next morning, weather permitting, we will set about climbing the peak. (Tent/B/L/D)

Day 10 Return to the White River (Tsagaan gol Valley)

Today we will hike back to our camp in the Tsagaan Gol Valley. This evening we will have the opportunity to visit Tuvan families and share their culture and lifestyle. Total hiking: 6 to 8 hours. (Tent/B/L/D)

Day 11 Return to Ulgii
We will say goodbye to our Tuvan friends and take the 7-hour drive back to Ulgii. On the way we will visit with the Kazakh Eagle Hunters. Tonight, is our chance to sleep in a Kazakh yurt (ger), and we will celebrate the ascent with a traditional Kazakh meal. (/B/L/D)

Day 12 Return Flight to Ulaan Bataar

This morning we catch the return flight to Ulaanbataar. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Free afternoon for shopping. (Hotel/B/L/D)

Meals In Ulgii city, you have choice between restaurants with traditional Kazakh dishes, traditional Mongolian dishes, European and Turkish dishes. Everyday different taste. When you are in the countryside or a festival site, our high skilled expedition chiefs are eager to cook your meals in place. If you are vegetarian or on a diet by your physician, restricted from some kinds of foods and beverages because of your health problems, just let us know about it. We choose and make a food specially for you. Guides Our experienced English-speaking guide-translators will guide you through whole expedition and lead you through the rich cultural and natural heritages here in Bayan-Ulgii. Tour vehicles This tour includes round-trip tickets to Ulgii and back. Regards to transport inside a province, rigid axle four-wheel drive vehicles such as Russian made jeep UAZ 469, Russian made van UAZ 452 furgon, Japanese Landcruisers are used because of road condition and vast area of mountain ranges. We provide in accordance with group members and complexity of trip itself, Russian vans and Toyota Landcruisers for traveler and another van for luggage and cooking staff. Weather condition in the area when you are planning your trip. Actual travelling season in Western Mongolia is from June to second half of October. Also some specifically designed trips are organized during winter. The climate in mountainous area is very changeable. Up in the mountains you might see four seasons could change in one day. If you are hiking mountains area, take that in mind and pack your warmest clothes. Mountain climbing trips are made possible only when weather allows you. This is what we say force major. The luggage weight allowed by local air company is 15 kg per person. The luggage exceeding this weight is stated as excess luggage and paid separately.
